Responsible for all clinical activities, coordinates activities of the home managers, and oversees the homes by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Formally recognizes the accomplishments of others when they display character traits valued by the organization.
Directly supervises two to thirty employees at the assigned work site. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include:
- conducting in home CSS training, scheduling and coordinating staff in-services
- planning, assigning, and directing the work of CSSs at the work site [scheduling staff hours]
- evaluating staff performance on a regular and scheduled basis
- supports and strengthens the corporate character program
- recognizing and rewarding the demonstration of character by employees, people receiving supports and other members of the community
- correcting performance of employees that does not meet position expectations
- addressing complaints and resolving problems
- conducting monthly staff meetings and other meetings as they become necessary
- monitoring all documentation, progress notes, medications, incident reports, emergency drills and procedures, telephone logs, staff communication logs, and flow charts to assure routine tasks have been completed
- completing time sheets and faxing them to the office on the first business day following the end of each pay period by noon on Monday
- keeping accounts for the petty cash and mailing all receipts to the office for reimbursement
- keeping strict accounting of the funds of the person receiving services
- ensuring that food, housekeeping supplies and medical supplies are ordered, purchased and received
- securing approval of a plan for any needed maintenance repairs
- scheduling and attending all medical appointments
- acting as a liaison to all agencies, to the Case Manager and to all family members involved in services for the person
The Home Supervisor answers directly to the Program Coordinator/Executive Director. The Home Supervisor is responsible for all aspects of consumer care, staff supervision and home operations addressed in the Home Supervisor’s Manual and for all other duties, assigned or delegated, by the Program Coordinator/Executive Director. Additionally, the Home Supervisor is responsible for meeting the requirements and standards of the Michigan Department of Human Services, the Michigan Department of Community Health, Community Mental Health Boards, CARF and when applicable, Special Certification.
1. Assure that Person Centered Plans are followed, monitored and documented, as necessary.
2. Monitor all documentation and required record keeping. Provide training to staff and follow-up administratively if there are omissions or errors.
3. Review all incident reports and investigative findings (administrative reports) and take appropriate action, processing them immediately.
4. Assure that all procedures and documentation related to medications are completed correctly. Provide training to staff and follow up administratively if there are omissions or errors.
5. Maintain the home, van, grounds, furnishings and equipment according to agency and licensing standards.
6. Establish/maintain good public relations in the neighborhood and the community at large.
7. Respect and assure the confidentiality of all consumers and staff by protecting and keeping private information and records.
8. Establish and maintain good relationships with support staff and DHS/DCH/CMH administrators.
9. Maintain a schedule appropriate to the needs of the consumers and the provisions of the home’s contract.
10. Make appointments for medical, dental, lab work, haircuts, consultations, etc. for consumers.
11. Schedule and chair staff meetings monthly and document and file. Conduct required monthly in-services.
12. Assure compliance with emergency procedures and requirements for fire and tornado drills, as outlined in the emergency preparedness manual
13. Train, evaluate, supervise and discipline staff.
14. Coordinate the hiring and dismissal of staff with the Program Coordinator.
15. Maintain personnel files and consumer records per Central State Community Services, Inc., Michigan DCH/CMH and DHS standards.
16. Conduct and participate in trainings, ensuring the completion of 16 hours of training per licensing standards.
17. Act as a liaison for Central State Community Services, Inc., to all agencies and individuals involved in the lives of consumers.
18. Assure that menus, grocery shopping lists, food purchasing procedures and dietary record keeping meet all applicable standards, and approved substitutions.
19. Provide 24 hour on call emergency availability to home staff (coordinate with Assistant Home Supervisor and Program Coordinator).
20. All other tasks, duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Program Coordinator, Program Manager or Executive Director.

- Ability to supervise staff to meet the needs of the consumers and to maintain an orderly home environment for them. A minimum of one year of direct care experience with the population to be served and/or related training and education.
- Physical examination including pre-employment and annual Tb tests.

- Evidence of emotional maturity and stability.
- Physical stamina including the ability to lift and support consumers as necessary. (Minimum lift requirement 90 lbs.)
- Ability to recognize and record significant individual and group behavior.
- Attend trainings and pass exams (tests) as required.
- Copy of valid and unrestricted Michigan Driver’s License.
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Three or more positive references.
- Evidence of ability to handle crisis situations with calmness and objectivity.
- Ability to maintain and record expenditures as well as accounting for and safeguarding funds, valuables and confidential materials.
- Complete and meet the requirements of a criminal history check.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, physician’s orders, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to individuals and other employees of the organization.
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiple and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurements, volume and distance.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
A valid Michigan driver’s license is required as well as current insurance as required by the State of Michigan. Group Home curriculum training must be successfully completed within the first 90 days of employment.
A felony/misdemeanor background search with MILT and IChat is performed. Searches of the Office of Investigator General (OIG), Offender Tracking Information System (OTIS), the Sex Offender Registry and the Nurse Aid Registry are also performed. Results can affect employment status.
